Descriptionof wood, with one end split for the insertion of bristles, possibly porcupine hair which was commonly used. this end is bevelled and tightly wrapped with roots. above the wrapping the handle is carved in low relief with a figure. form of the figure is adapted to the shape of the stick, legs curve downward and meet at centre front, arms curve upward and touch at the centre. area between arms and legs is carved to represent a bird's head, with beack pointing downward. the head of the figure is large, with ears rising above eyebrows, typical eye form with large circular eyeball and wide mouth (no teeth). above the head, the remainder of the handle is incised to represent potlatch rings.
