Descriptionsmall square basket of checker woven cedar bark. warps at rim are turned back one to the left and secured by one row of z twining. two small s twisted cedar bark handles are attached to sides.
in notes from Newcombe it states it was used for picking berries, but Haidas never used cedar bark for collecting food, due to the smell of the cedar going into the food collected. all food harvesting baskets were made from spruce root, so this basket could have been used for holding things. also the card says the handles were made from s twist, by the photos it looks to be z twist, Haidas never done did s twist rope.
collected in Kaigani, Alaska
