Descriptionblack painted mask, facial design and teeth, natural wood. Wood crown painted green. Pieces of skin and down attached to tips of wood claws on crown and around edge of face.
description from 'Haida Art' - George MacDonald - a shaman's mask of red cedar trimmed with eagle down. The crown of grizzly claws was copied from Tsimshian shaman. Masks were only very rarely used by Haida shaman, so this one was probably made for sale to visitors.
