Descriptiondance headdress carved of wood, representing a sculpin. two human figures with bird like beaks projecting from their heads and bodies are carvved in low relief against the back of the fish. at the front of hte headdress, the mouth is slightly open and a human face and hands are emerging. eyes are large, circular, and inlaid with copper. gill slits are indicated by curved lines at the extremes of the mouth. lateral fins are carvved in low relief, as if folded back close to body. the fins are painted wiht design of a shark (?) (se Boaz, p. 200 for comparison). the tail is flaring and at right angles to body. face of headdress is basically blue, with red lips and nostrils. eyebrowss, most of back, and tail are blacck with red line markings. figures on back have red bodies, blue and natural wood facces. design on fins is black and red.Exhibition HistoryNat.
