BiographyLewis Collinson (1881 - 1970) of Skidegate was from the Eagle clan and was Chief Skidegate. He also went by the name of Tom Collinson. He was a prolific carver of slate (poles, figurines), wood, and silver. His style in poles was decisive. He carves all his figures on three sides and leaves the back straight and smooth. His figures are exactly symmetrical, perfectly balanced, which is no small trick for anyone, and quite remarkable for a fisherman untaught in the arts.
