DescriptionBeaver chewing stick mask. face of beaver painted green. shell inlay ears, eyes, teeth. 2 hands hold stick on either side of mouth. 12" long small swatches of brown-blonde hair attached around top edge of mask at back. cord 1' long hangs down left side with 22 small swatches tied on with cotton thread. probably would tie around the back of the wearers head.
noted in 'Haida Art' - this forehead mask represents a beaver characteristically gnawing a stick, which it holds with humanlike hands. there is abalone shell inlay on the teeth and eyes, and streamers of human hair. some Tsimshian influence is evident in the form and decoration of the eyebrows".
