DescriptionHuman face, yellow, green, red and black paint. Carved wood human face open mouth showing even teeth, black moustache and design on chin. Face background yellow also teeth, elaborate green design on rest of face probably to represent a certain animal. Round holes burned in eyes and carved in each cheek. 2 nails under chin hold bits of down. Nostrils and lips red. Holes in cheeks to hold pointed barbs, now missing. Alex Mackenzie, in Roy. Society of Canada. 1891, pg. 6 notes for this mask and others "these masks grotesque and other-wise, were used at merry makings pertaining to feasts, house inaugurations and dances. Faces of human or mythological beings of birds or beasts, were represented by such masks. Wooden or bone.
