Descriptionstorage box, with lid. made from cedar. the four sides are made from a single hand made board, kerfed at intervals, then steamed and bent. the last corner joint and the bottom board are secured with metal nails. the lid is 6.5-7cm deep, carved from a single piece of wood, hollowed out on the underside to make lighter. the lid has a shallow inside rim which fits inside edge of box. the painted decoration consists of 2 similar, bilaterally symmetrical formline designs covering front and back faces, and 2 simple ovoid forms on each lateral face. the front and back designs eacch depit a largge, stylized formline head with body and appendages. on one side the primary formline follows the line of hte lower jaw, then goes up the sides of the head, around the inner edge of the eye socket, and down to the corner of the mouth. the eye is a large elaborated ovoid, surrounded by a thin tertiary line without eyelid points. on the other side, each eye is a "double" eye, and hte primary formline is more angular, following the lower jaw, then going up the sides of the head and across the top of the eye sockets, dipping between the eyes. the eye formline outlines tow eyes and a mouth, and is surrounded by a thin tertiary line wiht eyelid points. main formlines and tertiary line are in black, secondary lines are in red. burn marks on lid.
