Descriptionstoarge box with lid, of wood, probably red cedar. the four sides are made from a single hand made board, kerfed at intervals, then steamed and bent. the last corner joint and hte bottom board are secured with wooden pegs, with cotton cloth inserted ins seam. the lid is a single board, approximately 3cm deep, which overlaps sides of box slightly. the painted decoration consists of two similar bilaterallys ymmetrical formline designs covering front and back faces, and a simple ovoid form on each lateral face. the front and back designs depict a largge, stylized formline head with body and appendages. on one side, the primary formline follows the line of the lower jaw, then goes up the sides of the head, around the inner edge of the eye socket, and down to the corner of the mouth. the eye is a large elaborated ovoid, surrounded by a think tertiary line without eyelid points. the design on the other side has double eyes and a more angular formline which follows the lower jaw, then goes up the sides of hte head and across the top of the eye socckets, dipping between the eyes. the formline delineating the eye outlines two eyees and a mouth, and is surrounded by a think tertiary line with eyelid points. main formlines are in black, secondary lines are in red, and thin tertiary lines are in dark brown.
