Descriptiontruncated cone in shape with cirrcular concavve crown and flaring brim. commenced at crown witth a radial start of spruce root worked in three ply z twist twining technique. the foundation is then bent over the sides to become the warps with the perimeter fastened with a row of s twist twining. the walls are divided into two undelineated sections. upper portion 12.4cm wide, is worked in three ply z twist twining. lower field of brim 9.7cm wide is decorated with 20 pairs of certical zig zag motifs of two ply twill twining on a background of plain two ply z twists twining. one weft row aroudn rim is paplied in plain two ply z twist twining only. to form the rim, the warps trands (each consisting of two to three layers) are truncated at the last wefft row and fastened with a three ply braid. a cylindrical headband of spruce root 4.2cm wide is woven on the interior commencing 8.2cm from the crown to make the hat fit the wearer. separate strands are bent around the weefts to form a double warp which is worked in two ply z twist twill twining. the selvedge is formed by bending the trimmed warps to the exterior over the adjacent warp strands and securing with a row of two ply z twist twining. strap of blue and orange checked fabric is secured to each interior side of headband with black and beige threads trap is knotted in the centre and would fit under chin of wearer. surface is unpainted.
