Descriptiongrooved stone head (a) with unattached wooden handle (b). head pecked and ground from single piece of black stone into oval shape with flat proximal end and rounded distal end. central groove (3.3cm wide) cut to run parallel to ends extends to flat base. lashing is missing. handle has rectangular platform with handle shaft circular in cross section extending down from centre. fragmented beige paper label with '68' on end of platform. shaft is blackened in areas from fire. end of shaft is plit. near groove in red is number '3082'.Published References'Indian Artifacts of the Northwest Coast' Hilary Stewart
