Descriptionof wood (probably cedar). the sides are made from a single, handmade board, kerfed at intervals, then steamed and bent. the last corner board and the bottom board are secured with wooden pegs. the lid is 7cm deep. carved from a single piece of wood, hollowed out on the inside to make it lighter. the lid has a shallow inside rim which fits inside the edge of the box. the painted decoration consists of a bilaterally symmetrical formline design covering front and back, and 2 simple outline avoid form with a 4 pointed "star" motif between on each lateral face. the front and back design each depict a large, stylized formline head with body and appendages. primary formlines are painted in black, secondary lines in red and teritiary lines in black.collected in Masset
