DescriptionThe painted design on box, front to back, usually represents animal and supernatural beings, but they are so highly conventional that it is usually impossible to identify them with any certainty. This box has a bird like design on the upper third of box, middle section of box is made up of various elements to possibly make up the body. Bottom third may represent the legs and feet. Lid of box has an arrow carved into it and points to the wooden pegged corner; bottom of box has been pegged together with wooden pegs. Inside of box has a black stain on the bottom and has a tobacco smell to it. Paint is red and black. Pegged corner has diagonal pegging; lid is slightly charred.
