Descriptiongrease box; sides are single board (birch?) notched and bent tin 3 places, the ends being nailed together as the fourth corner. a cedar base is nailed on. a lid, hollowed beneath, and rising slightly on top, is attached by a rope of twisted gut on each of 2 opposite sides. each rope passes through 2 holes in lid, and matching holes in rim of wall, and is knotted at its ends. top of lid is incised with square and lines to each corner, and one edge has series of incised circles. walls have vertical incising at each corner, and a side representation of a zoomorphic face and paw, arranged facing in alternating directions around box. walls are convex with wider, flat rim. edge of base is curved and convex, extending beyond bottom of walls. box is soaked with grease.
