Descriptiongrooved type for hafting, made from a single piece of light coloured stone flecked with black (now discoloured) by pecking and grinding tecchnique. maul is circular in cross section, with a slightly concave base (for fitting snugly to the end of a handle). one end of maul is truncated to provide a flat surface for function of pounding. several hallow concavities around edge of truncated end. opposite end of maul has circular concavity carved in each side with opposite ends of each concavity open forming a groove for attachment of maul to haft by lashing. end has central ridge carvved in relief between two shallow grooves which are perpendiccular to concavities on sides. the number "63" is marked in red on the ridge. a deep groove (3.4cm wide) is carved around centre of maul 3.5cm from truncated end also for attachment of maul to haft by lashing.On View
