Descriptiona) halibut hook, shaped as rounded v, of piece of hemlock bent at knot. point of iron lashed to side of end of one arm with hemp or nettle cord, and overlaid root, lashing. some root lashing on this arm near the bend. lashing, likely of cedar root, fastens a lead to other arm. lead of twisted spruce (?) root, an end of which passes around this arm and is lashed to the rope with cotton string. lead attaches to float. end of arm with lead has carved head, resembling sea lion.
b) float, shaped like salmon, with incised lines indicating eyes, gills, mouth. lead passes through base of body, entering at mouth and reappearing at anus. end of lead is folded back and tied to itself with root lashing. float covered with notches, resembling sclaes or markings of fish. a and b joined by small piece of twine, passing through hole in float and around arm of hook with point.
